My purpose is to create and inspire

My name is Asia'Jona (A-GEE-ahnna) Desunique, and I'm from Columbus, Ga. Art has played such a significant role in my life for as long as I can remember. Through creation, I can slowly release myself from the chains of my past. I've learned how to be vulnerable with others through my work, as well as connect with and uplift those who have shared similar experiences.

Art has not only helped me to express my feelings and tell my story, but it has also helped me to re-find my voice and myself.

As an artist, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to narrate personal stories that need to be told. Whether they are my own experiences or those of others, I believe that my art has the power to give voice to the voiceless and bring attention to important issues.

My work is deeply inspired by other artists who share this same commitment, such as Francis Bacon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kara Walker, Toyin Ojih Odutola , Frida Kahlo, Carrie Mae Weems, and Kehinde Wiley to name a few. These artists have shown me the power of painting beautiful stories and driving emotion through their work.

One of the reasons I feel so passionately about being an artist is that I see it as my responsibility to be an advocate for those who are unable to speak for themselves. I believe that art has the power to shed light on the darkenesses we sometimes live in and make a difference in people's lives.

I'm particularly passionate about spreading love and healing through my paintings, as well as advocating for sexual abuse survivors and the protection and uplifting of the youth. These are issues that are close to my heart, and I firmly believe that art has the ability to create a transformative impact on the world.

Certain conversations need to be had, and I'm not afriad to be the one to broach the topic.
