FAQs
What is an Archival Print?
An archival print is a museum-quality reproduction of an artwork, designed to last for generations without fading or deteriorating. These prints are produced using pigment-based inks on acid-free, cotton-based, or lignin-free paper, ensuring exceptional longevity and color accuracy.
Why Choose an Archival Print?
- Longevity & Durability – When properly stored and framed, archival prints can last 100+ years without fading, making them a great investment for collectors.
- True-to-Life Color & Detail – The use of pigment-based inks ensures rich, vibrant hues and deep contrast, preserving the integrity of the original artwork.
- Museum & Gallery Standards – Archival prints meet the same quality standards used by museums and fine art galleries, ensuring they retain their value over time.
To maintain the quality of your archival print, follow the Fine Art Print Care guidelines to prevent exposure to light, moisture, and dust.
Open Edition vs. Limited Edition Prints?
What is the difference between open edition and limited edition prints?
Open Edition Prints – These prints have no set limit on how many will be produced. They are often more accessible and available for a longer period, making them a great option for collectors who want to enjoy the artwork without the exclusivity of a limited run.
Limited Edition Prints – These prints are only available in a specific quantity (e.g., an edition of 50,200, 400 etc). Once they sell out, no more will be produced. Limited editions are signed and numbered, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, making them more collectible and valuable over time.
Fine Art Print Care
How should I handle my print?
Always handle your print with clean, dry hands or wear cotton gloves to avoid transferring oils and dirt. Hold prints by the edges to prevent smudging or creasing.
What is the best way to frame my print?
For the best preservation, frame your print behind UV-protective glass or acrylic. Using a mat or spacers will help prevent the print from touching the glass, reducing the risk of moisture damage.
Where should I display my print?
To maintain vibrancy and longevity, keep prints out of direct sunlight, away from humidity, and away from heat sources like radiators or vents.
How do I clean my print?
Never use water or cleaning products directly on your print. If dust accumulates, gently remove it with a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a clean, soft brush.
